Transportation

Steuben County Council on Aging operates the STAR Transportation public transist system program. Click on the Transportation link for helpful information regarding services, policies, cancellations, costs and reservations.

 

Telephone Reassurance Program

The program is a free service that makes scheduled, outgoing phone calls to the homebound, disabled or at-risk participants over the age of 60 living anywhere within Steuben County who choose to enroll in the program.

Phone calls can be on a temporary basis, for example, while recovering from an illness or injury, or while a caregiver is away from the home for extended period of time.  It can also be set up on a more ongoing basis, for as long as you wish to receive calls.

Prime Time News Newsletter 

This monthly newsletter is published by the C.O.A. and its purpose is to provide updated information about health, nutrition, assistance programs, local events and activities at the Senior Center. SHIP – (State Health Insurance Assistance Program)

State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is a program that gives qualified, objective, free assistance to senior citizens and other Medicare beneficiaries who have concerns or questions about their health insurance.

 

A SHIP representative is available by appointment only. Please call the C.O.A. office at (260) 665-8191 to arrange an appointment.

 

Health Screenings

We offer free hearing and hearing aide maintenance performed by Fort Wayne Audiology Center and Routine Foot care is available twice a month for $26.  More information is available in the Prime Time News Newsletter.

 

Other services offered in Steuben County

 

Homebound Meal Program

Arrangements for a homebound meal can be made by calling 1 (800) 552-3662. Aging and In-Home Services of N.E. Indiana, Inc. assist older adults and disabled. Special waiver for fragile children.

 

Steuben Mobile Meals Program

Delivery is 5 days a week, Monday through Friday from 11:00 am to Noon within the City Limits. Call Jane Odom at 260-624-2010 or 260-316-1115 for more information.

 

Senior Farm Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP)

Aging & In Home Services will be making appointments at the Steuben County Council on Aging for the Senior Farm Market Program. To apply, you must be at least 60 years old, live in Steuben County and making less than $1814 a month for a family of one or $2455 a month for a family of two. Those determined eligible would receive 4 - $5.00 vouchers to use at local farm markets to purchase fresh fruits & vegetables. You may call the C.O.A. office at 665-8191 to get on the list to apply.
